Do these methods still do the optimization where it divides things into 3 zones w/ 1% free space between zones, move files into spacehogs, and etc.? I haven't touch any other options but a.

Thank you for your answer! I was curious on these extra methods, and I think I will start using one them now. Cheers.

Hi Jeroen,

Could you please update the documentation on your main page to reflect that?

Currently it says this:
http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/index.html
Quote
1 = Analyze, do not defragment and do not optimize.
2 = Analyze and defragment, do not optimize.
3 = Analyze, defragment, and fast optimization (default).
5 = Analyze and force together.
6 = Analyze and move to end of disk.
7 = Analyze and sort files by name (folder + filename).
8 = Analyze and sort files by size (smallest first).
9 = Analyze and sort files by last access (newest first).
10 = Analyze and sort files by last change (oldest first).
11 = Analyze and sort files by creation time (oldest first).

Those descriptions can lead to a misunderstanding of what a7 to a11 modes do.

Thanks a lot.
Regards.

What do you mean, what misunderstanding? Further down in the docs are more complete descriptions of what these actions do, these are merely a short description. I think they are allright.

Hi,

Perhaps we are nitpicking, but I was also a bit disconcerted when I first read the descriptions. They can be ambiguous.

It isn't completely clear that the a7 to a11 options are also defragmenting and optimizing.

On your webpage you describe each of the 3 phases. But you don't explicitly say which modes do all the three phases.

I think something like this would be clearer:
Quote
1 = Analyze, do not defragment and do not optimize.
2 = Analyze and defragment, do not optimize.
3 = Analyze, defragment, and fast optimization (default).
5 = Analyze, defragment, do not optimize and force together.
6 = Analyze, defragment, do not optimize and move to end of disk.
7 = Analyze, defragment, optimize and sort files by name (folder + filename).
8 = Analyze, defragment, optimize and sort files by size (smallest first).
9 = Analyze, defragment, optimize and sort files by last access (newest first).
10 = Analyze, defragment, optimize and sort files by last change (oldest first).
11 = Analyze, defragment, optimize and sort files by creation time (oldest first).

What do you think?

PS: I'm not sure if the descriptions of a5 and a6 are correct. Do they optimize or not??

Thanks a lot.
Regards.

It isn't completely clear that the a7 to a11 options are also defragmenting and optimizing.

The a7...a11 options do not have a separate defragmentation phase, and will in fact create fragmented files. Optimization is more or less implied by "sort", but I will add the word "optimize".

Only action 2 and 3 will perform the defragmentation phase, exactly as shown in the short description.

No.

I have reviewed the short descriptions and will change them in the next version into this.
Code:
1 = Analyze, do not defragment and do not optimize.
2 = Defragment only, do not optimize.
3 = Defragment and fast optimize [recommended].
5 = Force together.
6 = Move to end of disk.
7 = Optimize by sorting all files by name (folder + filename).
8 = Optimize by sorting all files by size (smallest first).
9 = Optimize by sorting all files by last access (newest first).
10 = Optimize by sorting all files by last change (oldest first).
11 = Optimize by sorting all files by creation time (oldest first).

Hi,

I like that description. Now it's much clearer for me.

Thanks again!
