I recall in an earlier post where it was stated that the program doesn't affect the DB structure tables, etc, just the file. 35GB is pretty large and Win2008R2 Defrag can't correct it stating 94% file fragmentation.
What is the typical running time for a file that large? Don't want to assume it's hung and break the process.
Also, Would you suggest running it offline vs. live [/b] [/b] (would assume)?
Thanks

It's difficult to give an accurate time estimate. The more fragmented the file the longer it takes (moving small fragments is quite time expensive).
You can try an online defragmentation first. If that doesn't work you have to stop the SQL server and try again. You'll know when it doesn't work if MyDefrag marks the file as unmovable.

I have used mydefrag to process files DB2 DMS container files larger than this before, it will take some time but it will also do a great job. Trick is to get your script set up correctly so it places the container files/folders at the very front of the disk, then once done, mark them as un-moveable (usually by size) so you will never have to touch them again.

My DMS container files never fragment once you have processed them once. SMS containers however will resize automatically so that is a different story.
