Graphical icon keeps disappearing from shortcut and exe file

I am using MyDefrag 4.3.1 on a Win7 home premium 64 notebook & I added the program shortuct to my start menu. The MyD graphical icon was visible on the start menu link as well as on the application exe in the programs folder. Then, a few hours later, I noticed the MyD icon grahic was gone from the start button link - replaced with a generic place holder icon, and when I checked in the programs folder, the MyD graphic icon was absent from the .exe file as well. So, I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it, the MyD icons returnned. Then an hour or two later, the graphical icons were gone again. Other start menu and desktop icons remain intact. Only the MyD graphical icon is being replaced by a generic icon place holder.  Whether clicking on the start menu link or the actual .exe file, the application still works just fine. If there is a fix for the disappearing icon, it would be nice to resolve this frustrating situation. Thanks. Hank.

The only reason I can think of is that there is some kind of access or permission problem. Are you logged in the same userid as what you installed MyDefrag with? Or maybe you have some kind of security program that has decided to block access. Another possibility is a virus or malware. The icon is stored inside the "MyDefrag.exe" executable, not somewhere else.

I think you applied the "Icon" hotfix of Microsoft which preventet reading out icons from some .exe files as there was a security whole which is fixed. Please check Windows Update if there is a fixit-tool which removes this hotfix.

Otherwise perhaps your mydefrag.exe gets modified by malware. Please heck your system.
