Just a thought, as al users PC's are different, have a little background capture program that can track what files load the most often, booting and otherwise and then create or suggest to create a script from this data. The capture prog could do a compare over the course of a week to fine tune / change what it sees.

You're basically describing the functions of Windows Prefetch. Wink

MyDefrag uses the information Prefetch collects in the System Disk scripts which place the files accordingly.

I had created such as script at one point.

The difference between it and the prefetch stuff is pretty minimal (at least in what is included).  The prefetch stuff is not as good for boot but better for long term use.  The only downside is it tends to drag in things you have only touched once in the past month...

I used a bit of python and the sysinternals util procmon and exported the data as csv.  There are a couple of different ways to export by total time in use and by time accessed.  I have found for booting time accessed gives the best results.  While total time used is better long term.  The prefetch uses more of a total time used alg.

However, I have found if you have a slow booting computer it is better to figure out what is wrong in the first place.  Services that you dont need, programs running that you dont want...  MyDefrag only helps some in these cases.  Getting rid of the offending program is usually better if you are after speed.  If you want the program then defragging is about all you got...

I was thinking more along the what files load first with booting, what programs launch at startup, gadgets, user tracking, virus scanner, indexing and then what you do next like, open e-mail, use photoshop, play your favourite game, etc etc.
So, yes, I guess like Superfetch, just more complete. How far does Superfetch go? the touch once, push to the front of the queue is not very smart. It may just have been installed but rarely used and if that causes a huge defrag time in re-arrangement, it's pointless. something that changes over a period of time and not just a once off, that's much more useful and could slowly tune the defrag in to a much faster system instead of the famed "system-rot" buzz word we windows users are so familiiar with.

The ImportListFromProgramHints file select sorts the programs by the number of starts:
Quote
The zone is sorted by how often programs have been started, the most started program first. This number is one of the statistics available in the hint files. Please note that a high number of startups does not necessarily mean that a program is important to the user.

Pre/Superfetch will likely do the same thing but it will place the boot files always first.
