Hi, i really do not understand why we discuss so many possibilities of scripts. Of course many peoples want to trying different things. But the true is that regular user want to use these scripts for their home or business pc. I would suggest to make some spacial ready script like the ones which are already given as default by mydefrag installation. Butttt, as follow.

If would be great when following scripts were prensents:

1 - Media volume with only image files ( jpeg, bmp ), no operationg system, only pictures. Script suggestion for fast viewing, sorting ? ( image folders= x1,x2,x3  )

2 - Media volume with only media files ( *.avi, *.wmv, *.mpg.... ), no operationg system, only movies from 2mb to 2Gb. Script suggestion for fast viewing, sorting ? ( video folders= y1,y2,y3 )

3 - Media volume with image and  movie files ( *.avi, *.wmv, *.jpg... ), no operationg system, only movies and pictures from 250Kb to 2Gb. Script suggestion for fast viewing, sorting  ( image folders= x1,x2,x3   video folders= y1,y2,y3 ) ?

4 - Xp operationg system with image files ( jpeg, bmp ), Script suggestion for fast viewing, sorting ? ( image folders= x1,x2,x3  )

5 - Xp operationg system with video files ( avi, wmv ), Script suggestion for fast viewing, sorting ? ( video folders= y1,y2,y3  )

6 - Xp operationg system with video and image files ( avi, wmv, jpg.. ), Script suggestion for fast viewing, sorting ? ( image folders= x1,x2,x3   video folders= y1,y2,y3 )y1,y2,y3  )

7- Xp operating system with many heavy games

If you can built script sets for above points i think many many user can play and modify them to their own needs. For me it would be great

You have to know that not every user of mydefrag knows the command like others and maybe they want not spend time for it, i personally try it but finally i always used ready scripts. So for such users it would be very usefull to get such ready scripts. It is up to you.

thanks in advance

The Monthly Data Disk script pretty much covers points 1-3.

The System Disk Weekly or System Disk Monthly script should work well. This will put XPs most important files (including fonts and icons) together near the front of the disk.

Try not to put other files in the same partition as your Windows directory. That includes images, videos, and documents. Again, the System Disk Monthly script will sort most programs before your data files (read the description). So that will take care of most of your concerns. Please read the summary the is displayed when you click on "System Disk Monthly" in MyDefrag.

This is probably old news

If you have two drives (which really speeds-up a Windows 2K or later system), put the OS on the first partition of the first drive. Programs you use often should also go into that partition. If you have a 256 GB or larger drive, make the first partition about half of the drive size. The second partition should be for your other programs (parts of those programs and the settings for those programs will be stored in the partition with Windows).

Create a small partition at the beginning of your second drive and put your paging (swap) file there (nothing else). That partition should normally be twice the size of your RAM (for 1 GB RAM use a 2 to 4 GB partition). The rest of that drive should be one partition for your data files.

Since Data Disk Monthly will sort your files by their full path, name your data disk folders (directories) accordingly.

Both of these scripts will put very large files into a separate area of your drive, after the smaller or often used files. That means that Games and very large files will usually be moved out of the way by these scripts.

The advantage of keeping your data separate from your programs is that it is easier to backup. However, if you create a "Programs" folder, you can put programs there without creating backup problems.

Suggested program: ERUNT

This program backs-up your Windows registry. Run it before backing-up your data and store the files into a folder with your data files. You can reinstall your OS and programs, but the settings in the registry are harder to recover.

Like what? "A_Often used data" and "Z_Seldom used data"? That's a task for the script language.

No, only the System Disk script separates small and large files. But large files can also be moved to the beginning of the volume if they have been indexed by Prefetch.

Do not restore a registry backup to a new Windows installation. There will be a huge discrepancy between the information in the registry and the files/programs installed, which will likely screw up your new installation.
Suggested programs: Imaging software like Acronis True Image, Drive Image XML, etc...
