I seem to be having trouble with Windows Disk Defragmenter after installing and running MyDefrag. After using Disk Defragmenter from its GUI, it continually says:

"Your file system performance cam be improved
It is recommended that you defragment now"

Yet it says that I do not need to defragment the volume when ran from the command line.

Removing MyDefrag with its uninstall utility doesn't fix the problem. (BTW, does that completly remove all traces of MyDefrag? If not, how do I accomplish that?) Does MyDefrag have something to do with my Disk Defragmenter problem? If so, how do I fix it?

MyDefrag has nothing to do with the Windows Defragmenter. It doesn't even know that MyDefrag is there.

Every defragmenter has it's own optimization strategy, so you shouldn't run two defragmenters on one volume.
Which program have you executed from the commandline? Note that defrag.exe and the Windows Defragmenter are two different programs.

Whether the command line and GUI of Disk Defragmenter are two different programs, whether MyDefrag has anything to do with Disk Defragmenter, and whether two defragmenters should be run on one volume is irrelevant to my problem -- which is whether MyDefrag has affected the function of Windows Disk Defragmenter, and if so, how to fix it.

So your problem is that the Windows defragmenter says that you should defrag even if you already have defragmented your disk with said program?
Did you take a look at the logfile to see which files are still fragmented after a defrag? I would guess that your pagefile is fragmented and, since it can't be defragmented on a running system, stays fragmented. Some defragmenters just look at how many gigabytes are fragmented, so a single large fragmented file is enough for them to sound the alarm.

Yes, that is what I am saying.  And this started happening after I installed and ran MyDefrag.

The GUI version of Disk Defragmenter on Vista does not offer a log. The command line version does not specify file names, nor does it show fragments in its statistics that are larger than 64 MB. But that's OK because you said they aren't the same program. Regardless, I deleted the pagefile, so that can't be the cause.

Without some statistics it's hard to tell why the defragmenter keeps recommending a defragmentation.
Could you install MyDefrag again and either
- run the Defragment Only script
- or run the Analyze Only script
and upload the MyDefrag log here?

Yes, the MyDefrag uninstaller will remove all traces.

MyDefrag is a clean program, it does not affect any other program in any way. However, different defraggers have different ideas about how to optimize a disk. For example, MyDefrag uses an advanced concept called Wrap-Around Fragmentation, unknown to other defraggers. It is therefore entirely possible that another defragger will think a disk needs to be defragmented, even though the disk is perfectly optimized by MyDefrag.
