Hello, I don't know if anyone suggested this idea before and I don't know if its useful or not.   Copying files from one drive to another is relatively faster than physically moving the file within the same disk because the seek times are reduced.  Do you think it would be possible to create a safe defragmentation utility that will copy a huge chunk of data to one drive and then copy it back to the original drive without fragmentation?

My original motivation for this idea was to speed up defragmentation and reduce wear and tear of physically moving files back and forth within the same drive.

You are at least the fourth one who proposes such a functionality.  Wink

Allow me to say "Me too."
I have a 30GB drive (mostly full) and there seems to be  no way to defrag it 100%.
Right next to it is a 1TB drive (mostly empty).
It should be possible to defrag the 30GB drive using the 1TB drive.
It might be necessary to disable all work on the computer while the defrag  is being done, but that would be a  small price to pay for a rapid and 100% defrag.

Move the whole content tothe 1TB drive and then back.
then the 30GB drive is defragmented.

I suppose you were joking, but I miss some  Cheesy to be sure.

And in case not, how could you send spacehogs to the end of the partition, for example?

But after implementing this technique into it really saves much and time and would increase reliability and less security concern because of no physicality included so better to implement it as soon as possible.

No, it was not a joke.

After defragmenting with MyDefrag (i.e. with SystemDiskMonthly.MyD), there is no large enough gap and the file is placed at the end of the last zone.
