Hello,

Since I've upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 8, I always woke up in the morning to a mysterious window asking with what program I wanted to open 'this file'
When I then chose whatever program, it always gave me an error stating that "Program" was not a valid file.

I had no idea where it came from, but now I've discovered it comes from the MyDefrag Daily and Monthly scheduled tasks in the task scheduler.
When I manually start one of those tasks, it gives me the same window to choose a program.
I figured it was the space between 'program' and 'files' that was being misinterpreted now, but I can't seem to fix it. Using %20 instead of a space did not really work either, although it gave me another error and asked to open with MyDefrag. Still didn't start the correct script though.

Can you have a look at it?
I've tried reinstalling with all default settings, but the problem stays.

Thx for the help

PS:
I had to register here using the audio captcha. The pictures don't seem to work.

That seems to be a problem with Win8 in general as it also happens on my installation. As a workaround, specify MyDefrag.exe as the program to run and add the AutomaticWhatever.MyD as an argument (also check the "Run with highest privileges" box).

I had to register here using the audio captcha. The pictures don't seem to work.
So that's why there are no more spam bots.  Grin

Thank you very much for your report, I appreciate it. I was not aware of this problem and will fix it in the next release. The MyDefrag installer creates an association between the .MyD file extension and the MyDefrag program, but from your report I see that this association does not work on Windows 8. The installer also creates a daily and monthly background task. These tasks rely on the association, and therefore you are getting the popup window. The next MyDefrag release will have a different method of creating the tasks that does not rely on the association, so that will be fixed in any case.

Ah! I was also wondering why there was so little spam the last couple of weeks. I had to move the forum to a new server a little while ago because of a server crash, and it looks like the captcha was not moved properly. I will take a look.

The .MyD file association is working on my windows 8, but I got this message for return value (no prompts) while running the standard daily task: "%1 is not a valid Win32 application. (0x800700C1)".

I got it working if I moved the AutomaticDaily.MyD file to any other location without spaces in the path. This is odd because launching MyDefrag.exe instead from the task worked fine and it had the spaces in its path.

Thanks for the extra information. So the association works, but the task scheduler has a problem with spaces in the path. Well, that makes the problem a bit easier for me because the next version already has code to create the tasks differently. It's a pity I don't have a Windows 8 machine, I can't test it myself.

I wonder if something simple like an extra "I am not a bot" checkbox would work to stop most of the automated bots.
