Hi,

Newbie question concerning whether to treat my 2nd partition as a system disk.  I'm running MyDefrag 4.3.1.

On my hard drive, assume the partitions are C, E, and F.

Partition C contains my Windows OS (XP Home SP3) and a few other programs (that wouldn't give me the option of installing them on Partition E) and no data.

Partition E contains the majority of my programs and no data.

Partition F contains only data

As to Partition E, I believe I should, for the purpose of defrag'ing with MyDefrag, consider it as a "system disk" even though I don't boot from drive E.  Am I right?

Thanks. Gopher

I think as your running WinXP you can use the System script on your 2nd partition (E:) and get some added optimization of your programs.

jonib,

I appreciate your feedback on my "system disk' question.

Probably most folks put all their programs on the C partition, which is consistent with a FAQ Answer which says:

"My basic advise for most computers in the world is to use the standard System Disk script for the C: disk, and the standard Data Disk script for all other disks. The other scripts (such as "Defragment Only") are only there for special cases. "

I suspect my practice, unlike most, of installing all the programs I possibly can on the second (E) partition, separate and apart from the (C) partition which contains the OS (and programs which don't afford the user the option of installing them elsewhere), is probably what the answer had in mind when it used the qualifier "most."

Thanks again for your thoughts on my situation.  Gopher

Yes, in your case your E disk should be treated as a system disk. Please note that the automatic MyDefrag scripts (used by the scheduled tasks) do not use the choices that you make in the MyDefrag script chooser window. You will have to edit those scripts by hand to have the E disk processed as a system disk.

Jeroen,

Thanks for confirming my belief about how to treat partition E.

Also, I appreciate your pointing out that I can modify MyDefrag's automatic system disk scripts  to include E.  Gopher
