Hello,

I have a problem with myDefrag 4.3.1.

This error message appears : Oeps ! Memory full. MyDefrag cannot handle this disk, it has too many items.

I tried to put "LowMemoryUsage(yes)" in Settings.MyD file but when I launch myDefrag, I have this error message :

Syntax error in script 'C:\Program Files\MyDefrag\Scripts\Settings.MyD' at line 27 column 1.

The command 'LowMemoryUsage' is invalid, only the following commands are valid at this point

Is the first error message means there are too many files on my HDD ?
If the command LowMemoryUsage can resolve this problem, how do i do to use it ?

Thank you very much for your help.

PS : sorry, my english is not perfect...i am french and not very good in english.

LowMemoryUsage() is obsolete since v4.1.2.

Did you try to run the daily or weekly script?

My collegues think that a too long path for some files may cause this problem.
In your opinion, is it possible ?

Yes. Size of the disk is not limiting MyDefrag but number of files is as it needs to load information about all files on the drive to memory first. There is certain maximum amount of memory a program can allocate (given by operating system, I believe on Windows XP it is 3 GB, on Vista/7 4 GB) and if it exceeds that, you can no longer use MyDefrag to optimize that disk. A problem may also occur if your real and virtual memory are small (happens sometimes to people who have disabled pagefile) but I believe you would get a system warning in that case before MyDefrag error.

To fix that, you can try to clean up your drive, delete temporary files, internet cache, empty your recycle bin, move unnecessary files to external storage and/or pack them together into bigger files using some archiving software such as winrar or 7zip.

The question is: how many files do you have on that disk?

Greetings,
Just encountered this problem, on a Terminal Server at the office. Some diag notes in my case:
- was running at 130MB RAM until it reached problem folder.
- problem folder was C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\S-1-5-21-0000000000-0000000000-0000000000-0000
- folder has 148 files dating back to 2009, but only 11 from this year.
Current totals on this disk from "dir C:\ /a /s" is
122663 File(s) 16,950,996,172 bytes
70419 Dir(s) 5,290,528,768 bytes free

I will try two things, to research and clean these RSA-Crypto files from user folders, and also to use FORFILES.EXE to remove files older than 90 days from user profile "Recent" folders. Killing Recent files as such should save about 14000 files.

If this is related to memory usage and long file names, is it possible to use the 8.3 short file names instead?  What did the LowMemoryUsage setting do and why was it removed?

Been using and recommending MyDefrag/JKDefrag for years.  Keep up the great work!

You should make a new thread, but anyway @ "Known problems"

Certain boot manager and disk encryption software can be incompatible with MyDefrag (and other defragmentation programs).
