Hi... I'm using JKDefrag and recently started using FileHippo's Update Checker (http://filehippo.com/updatechecker/) and I was wondering if it would be possible to add JKDefrag to FileHippo's site so everyone using the Update Checker could be notified that way?

Thanks for a great applicaton!

Thanks for the tip, I appreciate it! I have taken a look, but I cannot find an "upload" or "submit" link anywhere on that website. How do I submit JkDefrag? Secondly, I already have something in place, see the "Announcements" section here on the forum. Thirdly, there are so many download sites on the internet... Is this the best and the biggest? I am willing to submit new JkDefrag updates to 1 or 2 websites, but have no time for more.

Hmm... you're right, even on their login page there's no button for registration. Also it says: Public registrations will be available soon - so that's not a solution for now. About size I'm must admit I don't know which site is bigger - I would probably guess download.com - but only because it's been there for so long and was the first of the kind I discovered.

I'll try out the experiment in the announcements - although it's only for registered users. The other idea would be for everyone.

But isn't there some php scripts out there which lets you easily set up a newsletter service... don't know but will try look at it, as I'm looking for other php scripts.

But anyhow, if the experiment works well, where users get an email, it's probably the easiest way - so you don't have to spend time update lots of different sites.

Don't know about that but I use it, and like it, and it seems well respected in a couple of techy forums.

Forum registration is free, and necessary because the system needs your email address. It cannot send you update email if it doesn't know your email address.... I think the same applies to FileHippo, everyone would have to register.

Plus the JkDefrag site has fewer ads, 0 to be exact. Smiley

I think you misunderstand, the Filehippo Update Checker is a small downloadable program that scans your computer then sends you to a web page with any updates to your installed programs. Info here:

Yeah, exactly - and NO registration needed. I wrote FileHippo about adding JkDefrag to their site but they haven't returned anything and that surprises me... the seem serious, but not answering a mail seems pretty much the opposite.
