Today, I ran MyDefrag.exe on two PCs for the first time.  It reminded me of the defrag utility in the Norton Utilities of days past.  I liked it then and I was sorry to see it go.  With MyDefrag, an old friend had returned.

After 7+ hours of testing, I was not entirely sure that my test drive was fully defragmented and/or optimized by MyDefrag.exe.  I ran the "daily" over and over and each time it took quite a while to complete.  But once I completed a "Monthly" run, the "Daily" ran quickly.  IMHO, MyDefrag.exe is as good or better than any "defrag" app I've ever tried.  Not to mention that the price is right ;-)

As I read your license agreement, I learned that software development companies (including mine) are allowed to distribute MyDefrag of its user clients free of charge.  And those companies are allowed to charge their usual hourly rates for end user support as long as they don't charge a license fee for your fine software.

That strikes me as altogether wrong.  As much as I support the idea of "shareware" for home users I agree with the idea that "business" end users should pay a reasonable fee to subsidize shareware developers.

Since I installed MyDefrag.exe on my software development workstation and I will likely use it in the future, I was happy to "donate" an appropriate license fee using your "Donate" button.  There are some legal issues to work out first but if I can safely distribute your software to my end user clients, I will surely donate far more.  Keep up the good work!

The Daily script does not fully defragment and optimize the disks, it is meant for daily maintenance. The Monthly script will do it's utmost best to fully defragment and optimize the disks. But even then there are cases where MyDefrag has to throw the towel in the ring, most notably unmovable files. For more information see Why does MyDefrag not perfectly optimize my disk? Also see MyDefrag is very slow, what speed can I expect?

What I am sure of is that interupting MyDefrag before completion is a bad idea (same as with so many defrag apps).
MyDefrag will skip stuff that is already optimized. You can see this best on data disks. On system disks lot's of things change all the time, temporary files, logfiles, and such.

Thanks for sharing your idea, I appreciate it. I take it that you are going to make a donation? See the button on the website.

I wrote the first word processing app for a desktop computer back in 1974 but I still get confused when I see a Euro symbol in a shopping cart.

As for me, I got what I needed when I installed MyDefrag.exe on my software development PC.  MyDefrag went beyond what Windows has to offer and noticeably improved my PC's performance

Today, I sent a positive review of MyDefrag to a man that I can only describe as "the best network technician I have ever met".  If he tests MyDefrag as I did, he comes to the same conclusions as I did, and he sends out similar emails to so many more contacts and end user clients than I have, it's possible that the MyDefrag user base could grow measurably.

As I exit this forum I wish to compliment the Author of MyDefrag.exe for his brilliant diligence.

I think what he is getting at is that the € in the donation threw him off.

I'm sure there are many people who don't know how the EUR compares to the USD.  Perhaps you should include either an option to pay in various currencies (not sure if you can do that in PayPal), or at least provide an example of conversions (albeit a difficult task with the current currency fluctuations).

Cheers,

Greg

p.s. I echo his kudos... MyDefrag truly is greatness and your attention to detail greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your suggestion, I appreciate it. I think that PayPal will allow you to select an amount in your own currency if you have an account, but not for anonymous users. And I cannot add extra information to that page, it's coming from the PayPal website. I'm afraid I have to leave it up to the people to find the information somewhere on the internet, personally I like this one: Universal Currency Converter

Thank you very much for your donation, it's very very generous of you and I appreciate it. I have blanked out the transaction ID in your posting, just in case, because I think it might be abused. Your donation will go towards the upkeep of the MyDefrag webserver. On the internet everybody pays for their own connection, and having a server on the internet with a popular download such as MyDefrag costs real money.
