This is a protoype of my new MyDefrag ScriptGenerator. It is the first time I write a program in C#. I hope you like the UI since then.
Any suggestions are welcome. The GUI is Localized, it can be changed for any language. The Project will be open source. Feel free to
assist me with whatever you like Smiley.

One mayor feature will be the import of Process Monitor's tracing files (csv) for sorting files by ImportSequence. This could be used to improve the speed for games. Smiley

The snapshot looks interesting. It looks like you are planning to make an interface for all settings and possibilities? That's quite a job, I hope you are prepared for a lot of work and a lot of questions afterward. What is your target user? I fear it will be far too complex for simple endusers. For them a wizard would be much better, where the user is presented with a couple of windows with some simple and easy questions. Such a wizard would be much simpler to build.

A Wizard would be a nice idea. Perhaps I overthink this conzept again. I have written a script generator class, this thing is in alpha stage.

What questions are important to build a user-customized script?

I think the user needs some extra customization. Sinse every user has another strategy to order his files in directories and partitions.

Well, perhaps questions like if the user wants to make a separate zone for a special application (such as a game).

Why not provide BOTH? if you have enthusiasm and the time...

Today most programs provide BOTH for not to alienate neither Noob nor the Leet. Generally programs start with close-able wizard interfaces helping noobs to follow wizard, leets to skip the wizard and dive into the interface...

But if you only have time for "one", go with Wizard as you've been previously suggested...

Dear BloodySword!

I see you began to make a complex ScriptGenerator. I just would like to inform you that I have already begun making one, last summer. (You can find the relevant posts in the topic "MyDefrag Multilanguage"). I have had A LOT of work with it, and it's still not complete. But there's not too much left, it will be released in March.

I don't say "don't make it, I want to do so", I just want to say that if you just want such a program to exist, don't begin working on that, because it will be really difficult. I know.

My software will be localizable and open source, too. It will allow a maximum level of customization for MyDefrag scripts.

Very hard work, but I won't give it up. I won't turn back near the finish line.

If you haven't done too much so far, you had better making a wizard-scriptgenerator, as Jeroen suggested. You can do something like that, and I will finish my difficult program.

I hope I told you this in time.

Next week I'll publish some screenshots.

Interesting. I would like to know in wich programming language you are writing your application. I hope it is .NET from MS. Then I may assist you in developping if you like, instead of making my own one. ^^

Delphy, why uses everyone Delphy? I heared about it, that this is Borlands answer to VB5 / 6. But Delphi has some more features but it is based on turbo pascal.
Are there .NET versions of Delphy?

I don't know anything about .NET. I don'teven know what is that. And I don't care, too. I can code the program in Delphi, that's enough for me.

I've heard that Delphi (Pascal) is far not the best programming language. Maybe, but I haven't realised yet how much better eg. C is. However, I'm studying C now, and my further programs may be written in C.

I understand you well, I have grew up at Turbopascal for Z80 / CP/M

@Kiemc, BloodySword: I'm working on script creator too but with more features like importing existing scripts, converting them between different MyDefrag versions and different GUIs for beginner and advanced users (and of course localization too). It's witten in Java. I'm not touching Delphi/Pascal anymore, it su*ks (I tried to add some feature for file converter I've written by myself but failed miserably. I then reprogrammed it in Java)

Unfortunately it's the missing free time thats stalling the project.  Roll Eyes

@Darlis: Will this thing work well with current JRE from Sun? Is it fast? Programs in Java were often very slow.
I think german and elgish are included in this program Smiley.

It's compiled with the current JDK 1.6 so it should work with it JRE 1.6 too Wink . I guess it's even 1.5 comaptible but i'll have to test this. And yes, Java programs are slower compared to those written in other languages because of the virtualization, but I doubt that you would notice a difference while using the GUI. And there is almost no CPU intensive code in there.
I don't know what elgish is but i'll include German and English.  Wink

And now...

From this moment, I won't write anything to this forum about Kiemc MD-ScriptGenerator.

Why? Because the moved website of the software has been re-established and the Forum has also been reopened!

So: if you want to see information about the ScriptGenerator, visit its website: http://www.kiemc.icr38.net/scriptgen

And if you've got anything to tell or ask about the ScriptGen, use the Kiemc MD-ScriptGenerator Forum: http://www.kiemc.icr38.net/scriptgen/forum

On the ScriptGen website now you can find the status of development of ScriptGen, and 3 screenshots have also been uploaded!

*********

And it was the last post from me about Kiemc MD-ScriptGenerator here in MyDefrag Forum. To show how serious I am, I won't reagate any more posts about it here in MyDefrag Forum.

Use Kiemc MD-ScriptGenerator Forum linked above.

Thank you.
