The offline defrag of Paragon is nice to place files, but after next day MFT starts to became very fragmented, and defrag it again that about 1 hour, so I don't like this solution...

Maybe they should improve this to avoid fragmentation so soon...

Thanks for your suggestion, I appreciate it! I am hoping to add a small scripting language to version 4 of JkDefrag, and then you will be able to move the directories to any place on disk you like.

Don't you think that JkDefrag should always put directories next to MFT by default, wherever MFT is, since than system will be faster?

Yes.

From your reply, I can assume that you will add that feature on the next versions...

Sorry, but that decision doesn't make sense to me...

But ok Smiley

Sorry to repeat the same post, but I think this info is important:

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/winpreinst/ntfs-preinstall.mspx

Quote
In Windows 2000 and earlier versions of Windows NT, the MFT was typically placed at the start of the disk space available to the file system. In Windows XP, the NTFS format utilities place the MFT 3 GB further into the disk space, which has been found to improve system performance by 5 to 10 percent.

Do you know how can I tell where's the MFT located in my disk? Are there any free tools to check its location?

Thanks a lot.
Regards.

Thanks for the information, Leolo Wink

The PerfectDisk support already told me that, but I didn't remembered where to find it...
It seems that PerfectDisk have some reason about where MFT should be, and are not only marketing...
But after this, they put the directories next to the last file...

But what doesn't make sense to me, is the fact that Jeroen knows that with directories next to MFT is the best for system performance, but at the same time doesn't want to make JkDefrag act like that by default...

Hi,

I understand Jeroen's stance. Microsoft has always put the MFT at the beginning of the disk. It is only recently (Windows XP and onwards) that they have started to move the MFT to another position.

Given that most companies are always biased towards their own products, and many of them make ludicrous claims about their features and performance, it's always prudent to take their claims with a grain of salt.

To be honest, I also thought that Raxco's claim was simply marketing speech.

Regards.

Yes, so did I. Your link to the Microsoft article has made me change my mind, however. Thanks again!
