What do you think if MyDefrag would use one instance if it is defragmenting more than one disk?
The Disk maps and statistics could get tabs at the tops for each drive. Smiley

I agree. Every piece of softare must have tabs! Browsers already have tabs.  MSOffice/Adobe Reader/Notepad/etc. should have tabs so that users can easily switch from one document to the other (notepad++ and many others already do). Media Players should have tabs to allow for multiple playlists (Foobar2000 already does). Video/photo editors should have tabs so that users can edit multiple videos/photos. And Windows must have tabs so that it is easy to create multiple virtual desktops and to switch from one desktop to the other.
So, in my opinion, tabs are the future.  Smiley

Yes, tabbed UIs are very cool. Can't wait till Thunderbird 3 comes out. And can't wait, till MyDefrag has this feature, of course.

I'm thinking of the difference if the same drive is defragmented with two partitions. I think MyDefrag should refuse to do this, becaus this can break the lifespan of a drive and defragmentation will take a VERY long time. So it is only possible to defragment multiple drives, not multiple partitions of the same drive.

A Tab in MyDefrag could consists of three buttons in there: Suspend/Resume | Take it easy (slows down the SlowDown setting) | Stop 'n' close | <drive letter> <drive label> | <current zone>

And in the background the current Zone's progress:

That's a good idea. But is there a reliable way for a program to determine whether it deals with multiple partion on the same physical drive, or with multiple separate drives?

P.S.: BloodySword, where does your profile picture come from?

Yes. Ask the WMI. You can query the attached drives and you can even query the partitions / volumes from this drive.

Edit: The Diskeeper defragmentor used in Windows NT 5 and 5.1 (2000 and XP) refused to defragment more than one partition on the same drive.

My Profile picture was drawn by my darling. It shows her (right) and my fictive character (left). If you want to see it bigger, then write me via PN. Smiley

Thanks for explanation. I am not a programmer, that's why I asked (in fact, I am doing degree in economics).  Smiley

In my experience, Win2000 and WinXP defrag refuses to defragment more than one volume, even if those volumes are separate drives.

And wow, that drawing is impressive! Before I asked you, I thought that the picture was taken from anime movie.

I am afraid people are much more caring about
