I got a LACIE 1 TB harddisk that is connected to my PC by a switch and running on HipServ
I am looking for a way to format and later defrag that thing but even after days of
searching i did not find anything on the net.

Would be nice if you could include a routine to defrag that kind of backup disk
connected to the PC by USB or LAN (those that donīt show in the windows file system)

Might be a hard job because each one seems to run on a different system.

All the best

greetings

MyDefrag is based on the Microsoft defragmentation API. It therefore only works on disks for which the device driver supports the API. I don't know what HipServ is, but it sounds like it might be one of those network boxes that use their own internal operating system and filesystem. I am sorry, but in that case you will not be able to defragment the disk from Windows, not with MyDefrag and not with any other Windows based defragger. You will have to contact the manufacturer of your disk to see what is possible.

If you map the network drive in windows explorer it is possible to defrag with the standard windows tool so in theory MyDefrag should be able to see and defrag a mapped drive too shouldn't it?

Note: This could take a LONG time depending on how large the drive is because of network speed and latency.
