Hi Jeroen and all,

I'm attaching my debug log as requested by the pop-up which also notified me that MyDefrag had crashed.  Just yesterday (Nov 17, 2009) I uninstalled 4.2.5 (I think) and installed 4.2.6.  So the debug log is tiny; no need to get only the tail.

Since it is so small, I'm attaching the (regular) log file as well.  I hope this all helps.

By the way, when I registered with this forum a few minutes ago, I got the following error message:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 55 seconds exceeded in D:\www.mydefrag.com\html\forum\Sources\Subs-Post.php on line 1077

This was after I hit the "Register" button.  Even though it displayed an error, it turns out I had indeed been registered.  Just FYI, FWIW.

By the way, thanks for MyDefrag!  I like the switch to the "Monthly, Daily, Weekly" descriptors from the "Fast / Slow / Optimize" descriptors.  The latter were not very intuitive to me.  I like the new UI and the name change from JKdefrag, too, but I had no problems with JKdefrag.

Groetjes uit Texas,

John

I forgot to mention that after I installed MyDefrag, I modified the MyDefrag screensaver settings.  I set "The screensaver to run after MyDefrag has finished:" to "Blank screen" instead of the "[black screen]" which was already selected, and I assume it si the default.  I don't recall seeing the "[black screen]" screensaver in the drop-down list before, so I suspect it is also provided by MyDefrag.

I don't recall if I asked the installer to choose the MyDefrag screensaver for me, or if I chose it after the install.

Anyway, perhaps there is a problem looking up the Windows-provided screensaver, adding it to the MyDefrag registry sub-key or something like that.

Today I switched it back to "[black screen]", and when the screensaver started all I got was a black screen, presumably because it had been fewer than four hours since the MyDefrag screensaver had run.  In particular, I didn't get any errors.

So I'm very suspicious of the specification of or invocation of a non-default secondary screensaver.  I'm guessing something in those processes  is the source of the problem.

FWIW,

John

P.S.  The reason _why_ I chose the (I'm guessing) Windows OS supplied "Blank screen" over the (I'm guessing) MyDefrag supplied "[black screen]" is that I seem to recall the onl screensaver would stop with some graphics remaining on the screen.

Thanks for posting the logfiles, I appreciate it. The debug logfile does not show a crash, I am guessing that it was overwritten by a later run. But don't bother making a new debug logfile, there is a known bug in the screensaver that causes it to occasionally crash. Will be fixed in the next version.

It's your email address. The forum delivers the welcome email immediately, but if your mailserver is down, or very slow, then it causes the timeout.

No, the problem is not caused by the alternate screensaver.

OK, thanks very much for replying and letting me know the bug is known.

Of course thank you also for looking in to it and fixing it!

By the way, after I set the secondary screensaver back to "[black screen]" it has run the screensaver twice without a crash.  The first time it ran the myDebug screensaver and switched to a black screen, and the second time (within four hours) it went straight to a black screen.
