Hi,

Thanks for all the work you put into this and for providing this program at no charge!!

What is the best script for the screensaver mode?

It defaults to weekly, so I assume that is what you recommend.  But, I would think that daily would make more sense, because of the frequency that the screensaver will run.  Less disk wear.  Am I wrong?

Thanks,

Tom

You are free to use whatever script you prefer, of course. I see that you are right, it defaults to weekly now. I'm not sure why I selected that before and I will change it to daily.

Thanks, Jeroen!

Another observation:  When I installed V4.2.3, I checked the activate screensaver option.  I assumed MyDefrag would set itself as the screensaver.  It did not.  Not a big deal, really.  Just thought you'd like to know.

Also, on the window of the main program that lists the drives to be defragged, the window itself is sizeable, but the drive window is not - Can it be, please?

Thanks,

Tom

When I installed V4.2.3, I checked the activate screensaver option.  I assumed MyDefrag would set itself as the screensaver.
Selecting the option will cause the installer to popup the standard Windows screensaver selection window, where you then have to manually select and configure the MyDefrag screensaver. Has the MyDefrag screensaver been installed, is it in the list of screensavers?

Yes, I will do something in the future.

Yes, it installed, but I did not get the Windows screensaver dialog.
I wonder why. Maybe you are willing to do the following experiment: uninstall MyDefrag, install MyDefrag with the screensaver option. There should now be a MyDefrag.debuglog file in the installation directory, could you post it here on the forum please?

OK - I did as you requested.  The Windows Screensaver dialog did not popup.  But this time, MyDefrag was selected as the screensaver.  Though it was set before I uninstalled it.

Here's the debug log:

# See the 'MyDefrag.log' file for information intended for endusers. This is the debug
# logfile. The contents is highly technical and not documented. See the 'Debug' setting
# or the '-d' commandline option to control the level of information in this file.

Here's the debug log:
Thanks for the experiment, I appreciate it. The logfile shows no errors, everything ok. I see that you were logged in as userid "TA". Does that user have administrator privileges, did you "run as administrator"?

The installer executes the following commandline. What happens if you type this in by hand?
Code:
rundll32.exe desk.cpl,InstallScreenSaver MyDefragScreenSaver.scr

TA is an Administrator

I ran the code and the the Windows screensaver selection dialog pops up.  "None" is selected.

Ok, thanks. We have ruled out both the MyDefrag installer and the command, they are functioning correctly. Something else is blocking your window. I don't know what it could be.

I installed MyDefrag V4.2.3 on several more WinXP Pro SP3 computers and the screensaver dialog never popped up, nor was the MyDefrag screensaver selected.  Not a big deal to me.  Just wanted to let you know.  Thanks for looking into the situation.

Another observation with the screensaver - I run the MyDefrag weekly optimization from the program (not the screensaver) and if the screensaver activates during this time, the main program ends.  I would think that the screensaver should be disabled while the main MyDefrag program is running.

Thanks!!

See the OtherInstances setting.

Where do I set that at?  I don't have a "settings" option.

I found it!

I have this:

PreventScreenSaving(yes)

.....in the MySettings script.

So why does the MyD screensaver still terminate MyD program?

Read the OtherInstances manpage.
