Egad!!  Why can't each release of MyDefrag use the same directory?  This is causing grief with scheduled tasks, multiple pc's, etc.

You are only suggested, not forced to install each and every release into different directory. You can as easily pick any directory you'd like and install it there without any problem.
Jeroen already told a few times that it is not easy to maintain the consistency of scripts from different releases but it can be done. e.g. you can rename older scripts or use unique names for your personal scripts and adapt them to any changes the new releases yield. That's what I do. It takes some effort but it is not impossible at all.

Honestly the program should default to the same location on each install:
C:\Program Files\MyDefrag

If people have concerns about their scripts being overwritten, don't use default names for your scripts or choose to install in a separate folder rather than the default MyDefrag folder.

OR A nice compromise might be if Jeroen created two subfolders during install:

System Scripts
Custom Scripts

System scripts would be scripts by Jeroen and would be overwritten with any install.  Custom scripts is just a container for scripts that are custom by the user.  MyDefrag could then be programmed to look in Custom scripts first before looking into System Scripts.  This would allow me to create a custom Settings.MYD script if I choose or for me to copy and modify default scripts.  If I did have a custom Settings.myd in the Custom Scripts folder MyDefrag would see that one first and use it.  If that script didn't exist, it would then look into the System Scripts folder and use the default one.

At least this proposed method would support people who are worried about their scripts being overwritten as well as people like me who don't care, but don't want multiple install paths or have to manually uninstall every time there's an update.

Thoughts??

I would prefer it if the install path didn't inclue the version number as well.  I'm not doing anything complex, just running my SlowOptimize monthly.

The only other apps I have this issue with are OpenOffice, DVDFab and Cobian Backup.  And I don't run any of those from my Scheduled Tasks so it's not as much of an issue.

That said, I will try to adjust my install during the next upgrade and over write the existing version.  I'll probably clear out the directory before I install it though just in case the new version obsoletes an old file.

I really appreciate the software, love the fact it's free and in fact would donate $25 just to get this portion of the install changed.  I'm capable of working around this design choice, but it's a bit annoying and would prefer if it wasn't there.

Just my 2 cents, or my $25 should you choose to accept this mission.  Queue up the Mission Impossible theme, DJ.
