I have a 5 GB container file that is frequently modified.  I notice that when I run FastOptimize, MyDefrag spends quite a bit of time with the file.  Is it really trying to move the file every time?  Isn't there a more efficient way to process the changes that would result in a faster defrag?

Yes, the FastOptimize script does a complete defragment, that's what people expect from a defragmenter. See the Defragment ChunkSize setting if you want a faster but incomplete defragment.

Sorry, I meant FastUpdate.  I am running FastUpdate daily.  Would this change your answer?

The FastUpdate script does not defragment, it only moves files in certain cases such as filling gaps. You can reduce filemovement a bit by playing with the size of the gaps in the script, see the AddGap() lines. You can also consider excluding your big file with the ExcludeFiles command.
