I have been using JK for as long as it has been around and have been trying out the Mydefrag betas as they come out. I know that Mydefrag is still in beta and was wondering if it is still more effective than JKdefrag. What are the opinions of folks on the forum? I have not had any problems with the betas but am wondering if I am getting any performance advantages until the final Mydefrag is released. By the way, I am just a home pc. Thanks!

If you are satisfied with JkDefrag, continue using it. Smiley
You know the saying: Never change a running system? Wink
Most defraggers do a good job and are able to deal with about 80% of all situations.

I startet looking for a new solution when i want to place my files in a order I define but the standard defragger. From my point of view the advantage of MyDefrag ist the scripting language. This language allows complex scripts for placeing files in any order you like. I use a laptop with a 2.5" hdd and those hdds are slow. With MyDefrag and my own scripts i am able to sqeeze some speed out of my disk.

What I am wondering is, in others opinions, what is the advantages or differences between mydefrag's slow optimization/fast update scripts and jkdefrag's sort by name/fast optimization duo? I amcurious as to what you with more experience have to say. I know that they work differently and I am just wondering why one could  give more performance improvements than the other. Thanks!

A few improvements in MyDefrag as compared to JkDefrag (list is not complete):
- MyDefrag can move the MFT. This results in the directories and the MFT being placed close together.
- MyDefrag supports boot optimization.
- MyDefrag can handle a some extra system files.
- The MyDefrag SlowOptimize/FastUpdate combo is designed to be used together. JkDefrag has no FastUpdate, and it's FastOptimize mode was incompatible and would undo some of the SortByName optimization.

Thanks. That makes sense then. Once again, I must say that you are doing great things in the defrag world.
