Hi
I ran MyDefrag from WinPE and it works fine for me. WinPE allows to defrag more files than each other environment and MyDefrag runs really fast inside WinPE. fine!

Some files still keeps fragmented:
Fragmente       Dateigröße      Am stärksten fragmentierte Dateien
109             52 KB           \WINDOWS\system32\config\system.LOG
34              52 KB           \WINDOWS\system32\config\software.LOG
...

My Question:
- My Win-XP is not running while defragmentation. is it posible to defragment those offline system files from WinPE? (feature request) Smiley
- Anyone tried to delete those logfiles from WinPE before defragmentation?
- Will those files become recreated when i restart my Win-XP ?

Thanks for your help
Huggu.

Which MyDefrag script did you use? Mosts scripts are set to only process volumes that are fixed, mounted, and writable. It is relatively easy to delete the "mounted" item from the formula in the script.

to be more prezise:

i ran MyDefrag from WinPE. This way i am able to modify/delete all files on my Harddisk c:
after performing a SlowOptimize on my mounted and unbooted harddrive c: i detected some files not defragmented. for instance:
- MyDefrag.log (i am not talking about the active x:\MyDefrag\myDefrag.log)
- \windows\system32\config\*.LOG (see my fragmentation report in my last post)

I deteted all c:\windows\system32\config\*.LOG and rebooted into my Windows-XP. i saw imediately a new 12kbyte system.LOG file ... occupying 124 fragments!! ( no idea how a 12k file can result in 124 fragments.
i rebooted into my WinPE and deleted c:\windows\system32\config\*.LOG again. then i did a SlowOptimize. It results in the best defragmentation seen yet. Windows-xp recreated the logfiles and the logfiles are fragmented imediately but this is not part of MyDefrag.

so i can answer my previous question by myself:
yes its allowed to delete the *.log files. it results in less fragmentation of user files and it is    recommended to defragment the harddisk after deleting the log files.

Hum, yes. The program excludes all files called "myDefrag.log". It's much quicker than only excluding the currently active logfile.
