Hi.

I'm using jkdefrag for some months already. but i always used default mode by just starting the jkdefrag.exe.
but some days ago i read the forums and found posts about "-a 7".

Well i did a "-a 7" on my gaming-harddisk and now the disk is totally silent when loading game-files (at loading-screens).
before that it was loud and you could hear how it was searching for files all the time. now its totaly silent! i cant believe what this "-a 7" did!

i dont know how this is possible to make a loud loding harddisk so silent!

just wanted to say thanks for this great program!

hi, i've got a few questions about further defraging ond optimization:

i read that after "-a 7", an "-a 3" should be done too. but wouldnt this totally resort the files? "-a 7" does optimize by names and "-a 3" would do another optimize, but i guess in a total different way. so wouldnt this second optimizie "override" the first one?

but if its ok to do the second defrag: - when is the best time? right after the "-a 7" or should there be a reboot of the machine first?

and when should i do "-a 7" again? after installing and deleting or updating a lot of games?

thanks for help!

Partly, yes. The "-a 3" fast optimization only moves files to defragment them and to fill up gaps. It leaves the other files where they are, so most of your disk remains the same.

Whenever you like. The "-a 3" optimization is a daily optimization, to clean up fragmentation and to fill up gaps created during that day.

A good time would be after installing or deleting a lot of programs, yes. Or once per month, or something like that.
