1  MyDefrag v4 Forum / Questions and help / Re: Update/upgrade process for MyDefrag on: August 04, 2009, 12:22:11 am
I install new versions to the same directory "MyDefrag" which means it doesn't over-write any customised scripts, and, if no script commands have changed the scheduled tasks operate as per normal using the latest MyDefrag release.

Just wondering why WhenFinished(Exit) isn't the standard command in all scripts?
Because people are not used to programs that automatically close and will think the program has crashed.

Thanks, Jeroen

If you change MyDefrag such that we have to change our customised scripts will you announce it?

Also, when you release a new version could you indicate whether it is an important update or not?

Just wondering why WhenFinished(Exit) isn't the standard command in all scripts?

Why would I want MyDefrag open after it has finished?

Thanks,

4  JkDefrag v3 Forum / Questions and help / Defrag on shutdown on: May 24, 2008, 04:36:21 am
From Windows Scheduler I see there is a way to make JKDefrag work on startup/logon.

However, is there a way to make JKDefrag run when I shutdown the PC?

I action shutdown and before the process commences JKDefrag does a defrag.

I don't have a solution, obviously banner ads provide financial support, and Im not up with google Ads and how they exactly work (I assume page content), but perhaps someone could provide a possible fix to this.

I don't see the ad unless I turn off adblock https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865.

Jeroen

How about also adding a national postage stamp or something 'national'?

Make the certificate more interesting to see something from the country of origin?

I am assuming you will want the physical certificate posted and not emailed.

I will await your choice of certificate - be nicer to have them all in the same style.

Jeroen,

Are you going to choose one as a winner OR do you want us to choose the one we want to use?

Thanks.

I have noticed a few times that JkDefrag will suspend itself when the PC automatically goes into standby.

When the PC is brought out of standby then defrag continues.

I'm surprised that the PC continues into standby once defrag has started.

Is this to be expected?

11  JkDefrag v3 Forum / Questions and help / Re: Screensaver ignoring 4 hour limit on: December 02, 2007, 10:29:21 pm
I copied JkDefrag to a folder called JkDefrag as this meant I didn't have to change the file name in the scheduler to reflect the latest JkDefrag build, JkDefrag-3.N. We have it on 3 PCs so it made upgrading easier.

For some strange reason deleting JkDefrag from Program Files and copying the latest folder, JkDefrag-3.31, to Program Files and copying the screensaver files from there to system32 gets the screensaver working.

I had the fault on the two PCs I was testing so something strange must have happened.

Personally, I also don't see why there should be a problem with changing the folder name to plain JkDefrag.

I have it working now.

Before, I was copying new JkDefrag versions into a folder called JkDefrag in order to save messing about with having to change the scheduler.

Now, I copy the JkDefrag version folder over complete so that in Program Files there is now a folder called JkDefrag-3.31. From that folder I copied the screensaver files to system32.

Don't know why it's working (Jeroen probably does) but it is now waiting for 4 hours on both PCs unlike before when it was defragging after every wake.

I'm using the screensaver and have it set not to run within 4 hours of the last operation.

However, when I bring the PC out of standby the screensaver runs without regard to the 4 hour limit.

Is this how it should operate?

XP

I see the log now but I had to double-click .scr to generate it as per my previous post.

I have just checked it now and it is showing a run from last night even though this morning I have logged on my PC and left it for a while. When I returned the secondary screensaver was showing so I assume JKDefrag had run but this is not showing in the log.

Ian

EDIT: I just watched it run and go to the secondary screensaver, SunClock6. The log is still showing the run from last night. I can get the log to update by double-clicking the .scr file but leaving the screensaver to run naturally does not update the log.

My son's PC is showing the same behaviour. His PC has just finished the screensaver defrag and there is no log. I created one by running the .scr file.

EDIT2: Elementary, my dear Jeroen. It's working. One has to look at the log-file in the system32 folder. Too used to using the command-line log Grin.

Thanks, Jeroen.

Although, after the screensaver had finished I went to the directory and didn't see a log.

I went there now and only when I clicked the .scr file did one generate.

Definitely not one there this morning after the screensaver had finished.
