Thank you very much for you kind offer, I appreciate it. But no thanks. The problem with the forum (and MyDefrag) is not hosting, it is time. Hosting somewhere else would actually take more of my time. I have some other reservations about your offer, but those are moot.

It is not possible for MyDefrag to have caused your internet problem. I do not doubt that the problem happened after using MyDefrag, but that is mere coincidence. Your problem is caused by something else.

Thank you very much for your kind offer Jaspion, I appreciate it. I am not sure why I have not taken you up on your offer before - I've been trying to understand that myself. Today I have added you to the Global Moderators group. You should now be able to manage postings and the ban list. My rule is simple, if anyone posts something that contains a link to a commercial website then they are banned, userid and ipaddress, and I delete all their postings. Thanks again for your offer, it will indeed lighten my burden, and it's not so much of a problem when I am off the forum for a while, as can happen sometimes.

It must be a permission problem of some kind. Nobody has reported this before so I am assuming it is local to you wife's computer. The message is about the MyDefrag manual, if it's the only thing that is not installed then maybe the rest is working? You can read the manual on your other computer, or here online on the website.

The consolidate function is designed to move data down as quickly as possible without regard to fragmentation. I suppose it could be made smarter (and slower) by doing the things you suggest, but there is already a function that has all these smarts. See the FastFill() function. See the DataDiskDaily script for a working example.

I'm glad to hear that it's working for you know. The "not enough free space" messages are caused by the "could not get volume bitmap" and you can ignore those. Could the problem be overheating? Perhaps your harddisk is getting too hot by being worked continuously by MyDefrag on the faster controller, and does not reach the critical temperature on the slower controller. Modern harddisks will pause when they get too hot. The pauses are short at first, but get longer and longer as heat is building up, and at some point the pauses will cross a timeout boundary inside Windows, resulting in exactly these problems in MyDefrag.

No. There is a popup question, to protect minimal computers, but you can run multiple instances of MyDefrag if you want. Just answer "continue" on the popup. To control the popup see the OtherInstances setting.

See the "ZoneSize" and "ZONE222N" variables. Please note that these variables are only available inside the zone, between FileActions and FileEnd, and that the values can be different before and after you perform actions on the files. For a full list of variables see Variables. Some simple expressions are possible, such as adding and subtracting, for more information see NUMBER. You may also be interested in the RunProgram command, which can run an outside program from inside a MyDefrag script. It might be useful in your case to create the filler file.

I would expect so, yes. It's strange that "hiberfil.sys" cannot be defragmented or moved on a running system. It should be, it's only used on startup and shutdown as far as I can see, and completely overwritten every time.
