I think a fractal walk would look the best - that way blocks that are logically near each other on the screen are near each other on the disk!

SpeedFan
does a great job of reporting system health, including the hard drive temperature and other S.M.A.R.T. data.

Cluster size larger than 4K?

Win2k doesn't support the defrag APIs on a cluster size greater than 4k.
From the
MSDN
library:
ERROR_INVALID_FUNCTION = This is an NTFS file system volume with a cluster size greater than 4KB. (Windows 2000 only.)
