It appeared that you had some extra stuff open. That shouldn't even occur with Bart PE.

You need to close some applications or run it again in safe mode.

If your RAM is overclocked too much or overheating, this symptom can occur. That's if the same symptom occurs on the OS partition.

JKDefrag with -a 5 hung at C:\WINNT\system32\config\software.LOG:

Hmmm, I see. I have taken a quick look at the sources and this problem is not caused by a bug in JkDefrag, but by a bug in the Windows defragmentation API. It is clear from your log that a particular fragment of the software.log file cannot be moved. But the api does not report that, so JkDefrag happily continues. It locates the highest data on disk, which is still the software.log file, and thereby tries again.

I have made a quick an dirty fix. The fragment will not be moved, the api apparently does not allow that, so the fix simply prevents JkDefrag from trying the same fragment again and again. Would you like to test it for me? You can download at JkDefrag-3.27b1.zip. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!

Looks like a bug was found. A boo-boo.

I guess that it might be hard to picture withiout having the defrag visual on the screen but i will try to explain as best as I can. Imagine that you are going throught the trouble to run a defrag and it doesn't even move any of your files and your computer is still running slow. i get to the end of the defrag sequence and there is a picture with a chunk of blue and green with large portions of white. ie

I don't know if that means that my hardware is messed up, because a certain four letter computer company tells me my service contract is up don't know what to do.

Probably isn't a bad HDD.
If the HDD is bad, Windows probably would give you disk-related errors in the system event log.

Simlpe workaround I used for the purpose of defragging other drives that can function as boot drives as well - just rename the questionable directories to i.e. WINNTa just for the defragging period. Works like a charm

It's Windows that refuses to give JKDefrag permission to defrag those files and they're part of the NTFS filesystem.

With the fast optimize option, which is the default, it moved all files that it can to the end! I don't want the end of the HDD!  :evil:
